Actress Washington is Woman of the Year, to get Harvard pudding pot
CAMBRIDGE, MASS.
Actress Kerry Washington is going to Harvard to collect her pudding pot.
Washington had been named Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals Woman of the Year and will be feted with a roast and parade through Harvard Square in Cambridge on Thursday.
Washington is the first black woman to headline a network TV drama since 1974 as crisis-management specialist Olivia Pope on the hit show “Scandal.” She has earned Golden Globe, Emmy and SAG nominations as well as an NAACP Image Award for best actress.
Washington was selected because she’s a “talented and socially engaged film, TV and stage actress who keeps breaking barriers in Hollywood.”
Hasty Pudding is the nation’s oldest collegiate theatrical organization.
‘The Revenant’ braves blizzard at box office
NEW YORK
The snowy frontier saga “The Revenant” weathered a blizzard-ravaged box office.
Weekend movie-going was affected up and down the East Coast by Winter Storm Jonas, which forced theater closures in Washington D.C. and New York, and caused hundreds of theaters to suspend showings. Studio executives said the storm had a major effect on business.
The top five films at the box office were: “The Revenant,” $16 million, first; “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” $14.3 million, second; “Ride Along 2,” $13 million, third; “Dirty Grandpa,” $11.5 million, fourth; and “The Boy,” $11.3 million, fifth.
