“100 Years of Religious Faith IN OUR MAHONING VALLEY ...”
The Mahoning Valley Association of Churches is collaborating with the Ohio Cultural Alliance on a yearlong series exploring various religious traditions present in the Mahoning Valley in the order of their development on the stage of human history and their arrival and development of their heritage here.
The dates, religious tradition and speakers are:
March 7: Hindu, Dr. Sudhakar V. Rao.
April 4: Jewish, Rabbi Joseph Schonberger and Father George Blasko.
May 2: Catholic, the Rev. John Mulqueen.
June 6: Orthodox Christian, speaker to be announced.
July 11: Islamic, Dr. Ikram Khawaja.
Aug. 1: Protestant, the Rev. C. Ed Weisheimer and colleagues.
Sept. 12: African-American Protestant, the Rev. Lewis Macklin.
Oct. 3: Baptist “mega-church,” the Rev. Dr. Nick Gatzke.
Nov. 7: “Wither Faith in the Valley,” Dr. Tom Sauline and the Rev. Dr. Robin Woodberry.
Dec. 5: “Faith and Interfaith in Our World,” the Rev. Joseph T. Hilinski.
Each event includes a meal at a specially chosen venue, and a related cultural performance caps each evening.
