COLUMBUS,

Two Ohio lawmakers want to create an awareness day about communication disorders and name it for former U.S. Sen. John Glenn’s wife, Annie, who became a public speaker after going through a program to address her struggle with stuttering.

Legislation to establish the “Annie Glenn Communication Disorders Awareness Day” was introduced last week by Democratic Reps. John Patterson, of Jefferson, and Michael Sheehy, of Oregon.

It would recognize that day on Feb. 17, Annie Glenn’s birthday.

In a statement, Sheehy says the move could help educate others about the challenges facing people dealing with communication disorders.

Annie Glenn is known as the wife of a former astronaut and lawmaker but also as an advocate for others who have similar disorders.
