Maple syrup, painting classes at Munnell

MERCER, PA.

Munnell Run Farm, 753 Greenville Road, is having an informational maple-syrup event from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 3. Laura Dengler, owner and operator of How Sweet It Is Maple Products and a maple producer for 38 years, and Mark Lewis, a DCNR service forester from Crawford County with 23 years of experience, will highlight the basics of producing maple syrup at home. Topics will include identifying maple trees, tapping a tree, why sap flows, gathering and storing sap, boiling down sap, when it is it syrup, filtering syrup, grading, tasting and canning and storage.

Cost is $10, and registration is required by Thursday.

Guest artist Lauren Sheridan will host a painting class from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 8. Participants will paint a lion. Register by Feb. 5. Cost is $25.

Brownlee Woods association meeting

YOUNGSTOWN

Brownlee Woods Neighborhood Association will meet Thursday at Faith Community Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd. A social time with refreshments will be at 6 p.m. The business meeting is set for 6:30.

Guest speakers include Mayor John A. McNally, police Chief Robin Lees and Councilwoman Basia Adamczak, D-7th. There will be an election of officers for 2016. The meeting is open to the public.
