YOUNGSTOWN

A man arrested Thursday after a vehicle and foot chase on the South Side was wanted on four felony drug warrants.

Nelson Clark, 22, of Youngstown, was arraigned in municipal court Friday before Magistrate Anthony Sertick on a felony charge of possession of heroin, plus misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of drugs, possession of marijuana and obstructing official business. His bond was set at $12,500.

The warrants, all on drug charges, are from Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. He also has warrants from two other jurisdictions, reports said.

Reports said Clark was a passenger in a vehicle that vice squad officer Jimmy Hughes Jr. and community police unit officers Phil Skowron and Jose Morales Jr. tried to pull over about 4:55 p.m. on West Warren Avenue after it failed to stop at a red light. The vehicle instead turned onto Oak Hill Avenue, then onto Willis Avenue, where officers briefly lost sight of it before finding it in a yard in the first block of Willis Avenue.

Reports said Clark jumped out of the passenger seat and ran through several backyards, ignoring commands to stop from the officers. He was found hiding under a truck on West Delason Avenue by Morales, Skowron and officer Mark Sember, who was called to assist,

When Clark was searched, reports said officers found $909, a bag of suspected marijuana, 19 pills in different bags and a suspected bag of heroin. A digital scale that had a brown residue on it also was found inside the car, reports said.

Reports said Clark gave police a false name, and when they entered his name into a computer in one of their cruisers, the picture did not match the name he gave them. His real name was not discovered until he was booked into the jail, reports said.

The driver of the car, Kyesha Williams, 22, of Youngstown, was issued a citation for failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and running a red light and was released.
