YOUNGSTOWN

A man facing his eight driving-under-the-influence charge and accused of colliding with an SUV Jan. 12 while driving the wrong way on the Madison Avenue Expressway was arraigned Friday in municipal court.

Magistrate Anthony Sertick set bond at $3,500 for Daniel Ohle, 51, of South Schenley Avenue, for the DUI charge, a first-degree misdemeanor.

Ohle had been in St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital since the accident because of a broken leg he suffered in the crash, but he was released to police Friday, booked into the jail and arraigned in court. Reports said preliminary blood tests done at the hospital the night of the accident showed his blood-alcohol content to be 0.375. To be considered drunk in Ohio a person’s BAC must be 0.08. Other blood was drawn for a BAC test at the hospital. Those test results are pending.

Court records show Ohle had previous DUI convictions in 1985, 1986, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2007 and 2009. To qualify for a felony DUI, a person must have six convictions within a 20-year span or four within six years.

As a condition of his bond, should Ohle ever be granted limited driving privileges, he must have a device installed that will not allow his vehicle to start if he is drunk.

The driver of the car Ohle is accused of colliding with and her passengers, a 5-year-old and 10-month-old, were not injured.
