E. Liverpool man dies in single-car accident

LISBON

Justin C. Boyer, 36, of East Liverpool died in a single-car accident at 7:06 a.m. Friday on state Route 7 in Elkrun Township near Lisbon.

Boyer was traveling north on Route 7 and traveled off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail and continued along the shoulder until coming to rest against the guardrail.

He was taken to East Liverpool Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Boyer was wearing his seat belt, and alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation by the patrol and Columbiana County Coroner’s Office for possible medical issues.

Woman charged with heroin possession

Police reports said a passenger in a car pulled over about 4:35 p.m. Thursday at Gibson and Wilbur avenues for an illegal turn was arrested on a possession-of-heroin charge.

Lilly Higgins, 27, of Boardman, was booked into the Mahoning County jail after vice squad officers Michael Brindisi and James Welch said she pulled nine bags of suspected heroin out of her coat pocket.

Reports said Higgins was acting very nervous and was asked to get out of the car and if she had anything illegal on her. She then gave police the heroin, reports said.

The car’s driver was cited for making an illegal turn, reports said.

Man arrested after car and foot chase

Police arrested Juan G. Algarin, 26, of Stiles Avenue on Hunter Street early Friday after he led officers on a car and foot chase.

Police followed Agarin’s vehicle at a high rate of speed through the South Side at 2:01 a.m. until it crashed into a tree on Hunter, and Algarin got out and ran. He was captured a short distance away and taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment of injuries from the accident.

Charges of operating a motor vehicle intoxicated, reckless operation and a headlight violation were filed against Algarin in Youngstown Municipal Court.

Police arrest man after drug raid on apartment

Authorities converged on an apartment complex Friday morning looking for a suspected drug dealer.

Police raided the Shields Road apartment about 9 a.m., according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Police Chief Jack Nichols said authorities obtained a search warrant after conducting surveillance for two to three weeks on the complex.

Jose Valentin III, 20, was arrested on charges of cocaine trafficking and endangering children. He is in Mahoning County jail awaiting his pretrial hearing.

Armed robbery

A man wearing a mask walked into the Milk Barn Drive Thru, 8211 Warren-Sharon Road, at 8:04 p.m. Friday, and robbed the store employee at gunpoint.

The suspect was wearing a black jacket and held the gun to the head of an employee while committing the robbery, according to the Trumbull County 911 Center.

Lily Pond reopens

The Lily Pond in Mill Creek Park, which has been closed to the public for several months, has reopened.

The park completed work on improvements that include a new arrival plaza, a boardwalk leading to an observation deck, a bridge over the spillway and more.
