The Poland library hosted one of their weekly yoga classes on Jan. 6, led by Sue Trimacco.

The class is a Breathe and Bond Stress Reduction yoga class and is sponsored by the Friends of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County (FPLYMC).

“This is a stress reduction program, we have it every Wednesday,” said Trimacco.

Trimacco greets every person who walks in the door to make them feel welcomed. Creating an accepting environment allows the participants to feel more open and comfortable with each other. Many of the participants are regulars to try to come to the class every week.

Each class lasts an hour and has a $10 fee per class. There is a range of benefits for the participants who engage in the yoga class. Yoga can help improve sleep and health, while decreasing blood pressure, cortisol levels and anxiety.

Before the class begins, Trimacco turns the lights off and lights a couple candles to make the room feel more relaxing. She teaches several techniques and various poses that help increase endurance and strength and strengthen the nervous system.

The FPLYMC hosts several programs at all of the libraries in Mahoning county to encourage the community to utilize the libraries and see what they have to offer.
