POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

Jan. 14

Damage: A vehicle apparently went off the road and struck two mailboxes in the 200 block of Jacobs Road.

Drugs: A traffic stop in the 200 block of West Liberty Street resulted in a minor-misdemeanor citation charging 20-year-old Jesse A. Strohmeyer of Alfred Street, Masury, with marijuana possession when, police alleged, a green substance thought to be marijuana and a device often used to grind marijuana were found.

Jan. 16

Harassment: A Henry Street man said his former girlfriend, of Girard, has been stalking and harassing him since they broke up.

Jan. 17

Trespassing: Police handed a 74-year-old Hubbard man a criminal-trespassing warning after an employee with a West Liberty Street discount store alleged the man had pinned her against a wall and tried to kiss her.

Drugs: A marijuana-possession charge was pending against a 29-year-old Youngstown man after police had pulled him over on East Liberty Street and reported finding a suspected marijuana cigarette and a small quantity of suspected marijuana wrapped in a piece of newspaper.

Menacing: A Jacobs Road man said a boy, 17, had sent the accuser’s 16-year-old son a text message containing an implied threat.

Jan. 18

Drug paraphernalia: Officers on North Main Street pulled over and took into custody 50-year-old Richard L. Odem of Logan Street, Sharon, Pa., and 55-year-old Cyndi M. Isenberg, no address listed, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia after alleging a suspected crack-cocaine pipe was found. Odem also was wanted on a Mercer County, Pa., warrant charging him with burglary, aggravated assault, simple assault, theft and criminal trespassing.

LIBERTY

Jan. 15

Arrests: Officers at the Mahoning County jail picked up Jasmine C. Smith of Milton Avenue and Andreya Hosey of McGuffey Road. The two 21-year-old Youngstown women were wanted on warrants.

Aggravated menacing: Police investigated a report that a possibly disgruntled client had made several threatening calls to a Belmont Avenue counseling center, including an implied threat that the facility might be bombed.

Menacing: An East Montrose Street woman said a Warren man made unveiled threats and derogatory comments toward her during an online chat with other people.

Harassment: A Euclid Avenue woman said she received about 10 such calls.

Jan. 16

Arrest: A traffic stop on Gypsy Lane resulted in the arrest of Logan A. Frye of Wick Oval, Youngstown, who was charged with operating a vehicle impaired. The 21-year-old Frye’s blood-alcohol count was 0.141, which exceeds Ohio’s 0.08 legal limit, a report showed.

Identity theft: An elderly Virginia Trail woman told police someone without authorization had obtained her personal information and opened a credit-card account.

Jan. 17

Arrest: Boardman police exchanged custody of 27-year-old Robert D. Saunders of West LaClede Avenue, Youngstown, with Liberty authorities. Saunders was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Weapon: Anthony L. McGee, 21, of Birch Hill Drive, Youngstown, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and driving under suspension after authorities had pulled him over on Belmont Avenue and alleged finding a 9 mm semiautomatic gun in his pocket and a loaded magazine. McGee admitted he did not have a concealed-carry permit, a report said.

Recovered property: A 2015 Toyota vehicle was found at a Belmont Avenue motel after having been reported stolen in Youngstown.

Arrest: Authorities arrested 28-year-old Erik A. Carlson of Motor Inn Drive, Liberty. He was wanted on an Austintown warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Jan. 18

Arrest: Youngstown police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue relinquished custody of 51-year-old Angela Moreland to township authorities. Moreland, of Victor Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a township warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court on a theft charge.

Vandalism: A Girard woman told authorities that while checking on the welfare of dogs at a rental home in the 5500 block of Belmont Avenue, she discovered someone had placed a towel in a bathtub drain, causing water to overflow and damage the floor.

Jan. 19

Identity theft: A Logangate Road man found two suspicious charges totaling $292 to his bank account, one each from New York and Florida.

Arrest: Austintown police handed to township authorities 25-year-old Johnathan T. Repich of Madison Street, Campbell, who was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

GIRARD

Jan. 16

Arrest: Officers were dispatched to a vehicular accident in the 100 block of South Davis Street, where they charged 36-year-old Jason D. Marble of Indiana Avenue, Girard, with endangering children, criminal damaging and driving under suspension. An 8-year-old child was in the car during the accident; also, Marble kicked and damaged a window in a cruiser after his arrest, a report showed.

Burglary/possible arson: Authorities responded to a suspicious apartment fire in the 100 block of North Davis Street before discovering someone had entered, likely through a rear door. A 47-inch TV, a Sony PlayStation 3 game system and a surround-sound system were missing. Damage to the apartment was estimated at $10,000.

Jan. 17

Assault: A Trumbull Avenue man alleged a 17-year-old boy had pushed him against a wall during an argument that apparently was related to a vehicular accident.

Aggravated menacing: A Taylor Avenue man told police someone, possibly armed, was making general threats across the street from him.

Arrests: Austintown police handed to Girard authorities James Pesano, no age given, of Sexton Street, Struthers, and Rachel D. Gurganus, no age listed, of East Broadway Avenue, Girard, both of whom were wanted on warrants. Gurganus also was charged with receiving stolen property when, officers alleged, she had a stolen credit card.

Weapon: Police charged David C. Miller of Taylor Avenue, Girard, with carrying a concealed weapon as well as breaking and entering after a nearby resident alleged having seen Miller in his backyard. Also, the 31-year-old Miller had in his pocket a half pair of scissors that had been converted to a homemade shank, a report said.

Domestic violence: Austin J. Long, 21, of Park Avenue, Girard, was charged with the crime after a woman alleged Long had forcefully grabbed her arm during a heated argument. Blood was found on her bathrobe, police said.

Jan. 18

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: An East Kline Street woman said a 17-year-old boy took her 2016 Ford Fusion without permission.

Criminal mischief: Someone shot a marble through and did $500 in damage to a second-floor window at a residence in the 400 block of Lawrence Avenue.

Jan. 19

Arrest: The Ohio State Highway Patrol handed Brandy M. Joseph of Merri-weather Drive, Warren, to Girard authorities. The 36-year-old Joseph was wanted on a city warrant.

Bad checks: A Crumlin Avenue man alleged his former girlfriend wrote several checks in his name after he had closed an account.

Trespassing: Jesse McQueen, 61, of North Bruce Street, Youngstown, faced a criminal-trespassing charge after a manager with Santisi’s IGA Super Center, 419 N. State St., told police McQueen was in the store despite having been warned not to return.

Jan. 21

Citation: A charge was pending against a Girard woman after an officer reported having witnessed the woman fail to stop for a school bus near Liberty Street and Wellman Avenue.
