Penn State Shenango fundraiser is today

SHARON, PA.

Penn State Shenango, 147 Shenango Ave., will host its fourth annual THON Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser to benefit children with cancer from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the campus auditorium.

Dinner will include spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread, cake and beverages, and takeout will be available. There will be a basket raffle. Advance tickets for adults are $8, or $10 at the door. Senior citizen tickets for 65 and older are $5, and children under 5 enter for free.

Ticket prices include dinner and a basket raffle ticket; additional raffle tickets are available for purchase at the event.

VAST group to host a luncheon today

Valley Alliance for Science and Technology will host a luncheon from noon to 1:15 p.m. today at the Tech Belt Energy Innovation Center, 125 W. Market St.

Featured speaker will be Bill Whittenberger, founder of Camet and Catacel, and a site and technology director for Johnson Matthey Process Technologies in Ravenna. He will explore how he started two technology companies from concept to commercial success, and will teach some catalysis technology. Reservations are required; space is limited. The event is free for alliance members, and $25 for nonmembers.

VAST was created to gather executive level technology professionals within a peer group to collaborate, share, educate and enjoy social interaction with others who share the same interests and issues. Email rose@tbeic.org for membership information and reservations.

YWCA, collaborative sponsor team

YOUNGSTOWN

Technovation annually challenges girls all over the world to build a mobile app that will address a community problem. This year, the YWCA and Oak Hill Collaborative will start and support a team to compete. Participants, who must be 14 years and older, do not need programming experience.

There are six spots open on the team. An informational meeting for students and parents is planned at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Collaborative, 507 Oak Hill Ave. Light refreshments will be served.

The team will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 2 through April 19, and 10 a.m. to noon every other Saturday, starting Feb. 6, to meet the Technovation deadline of April 21. The winning team will receive $10,000 to complete and release their app.
