Jail inmate death under investigation in Ohio

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a female inmate at a southwestern Ohio jail.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that 32-year-old Kristy Marie Parker was found unresponsive on the floor of her county jail cell late Wednesday night. The sheriff’s statement says deputies and medics from the Springfield Fire Division performed lifesaving efforts but couldn’t revive her.

Sheriff’s officials say the initial investigation indicates Parker may have overdosed on a controlled substance given to her by another inmate.

Deputies have submitted evidence to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for analysis and met with officials from the county prosecutor’s office.

The sheriff’s office said Thursday that Parker was awaiting transfer to a drug treatment center to serve a sentence for drug possession.
