YOUNGSTOWN

A male and female, both 17, are in the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center after police said they stole a running car about 8:30 a.m. today and led police on a chase that was called off at one point.

Officer Josh Kelly had heard the call for the car being stolen from the 100 block of East Judson Avenue and was waiting at Hillman and Indianola avenues to see if the car would appear. When it did, Kelly tried to pull it over.

Kelly got out of his cruiser but the car took off, going to Glenwood Avenue, to Breaden Avenue and then turning around back to Glenwood Avenue, where the female jumped out of the passenger side of the car. It was then the chase was called off but another officer caught the female right away.

A Street Department worker spotted the car parked on Almyra Avenue and saw a male walking away who matched the description of the driver. Kelly was able to go there and took the male into custody.

The male is facing felony fleeing and eluding charges and the female is facing a charge of theft because $150 belonging to the owner of the car was inside the car.
