State patrol investigates fatal crash in Beloit


BELOIT

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield Post is investigating a crash that occurred about 2:30 a.m. Saturday on 5th Street at Stanley Avenue in the Village of Beloit.

A Sebring Police Officer observed a 2012 Chrysler 300 commit a traffic violation, and the officer was getting ready to initiate a traffic stop of this vehicle. The driver ran the red light at Ohio Avenue and 12th Street, he fled east at a high rate of speed on Ohio Avenue into the village.

The 2012 Chrysler traveled 8/10 of a mile when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway striking a tree and a house. The vehicle sustained extensive damage.

The residence at 18238 5th Street sustained minor damage, the occupants of the residence were not injured.

The driver identified as Bryan Whitehurst, 41, of Alliance, was transported to St Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with serious injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The right front passenger of the vehicle was partially ejected, he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Excessive speed and alcohol are factors in this crash which is under investigation. The passenger's name will be released when next of kin are notified.
