No bond for accused wife killer

CORTLAND

Citing the "deliberate nature" of the crime he's accused of committing — shooting his wife to death as she sat in a chair in their Farmdale home Sunday — Judge Thomas Campbell ordered Ricky Green to remain in the Trumbull County jail without eligibility to make bond.

Judge Campbell also said Green poses a danger to "at least one other person," though he did not say what other person he had in mind.

Green's attorney, Gary Rich, entered a not-guilty plea for Green, and Green stood silently next to Rich Wednesday in Central District Court.

Rich rebutted that his client "owns real estate" and has no criminal record.

Green, 59, called 911 Sunday night and reported that he had just shot his wife, Janell, in a chair and asked a county 911 dispatcher to send a deputy sheriff and an ambulance, though he felt sure she was already dead.

When deputies arrived, they found Janell Green dead, and Ricky Green gave himself up without a struggle.

The couple had been married 16 years and lived on rural Wakefield Creek Road in rural Farmdale in northern Trumbull County.

Janell Green’s obituary said she was born in Chardon and had been a longtime Newbury resident before moving to Farmdale with Green.

Trumbull County coroner has ruled that Janell Green's death was a homicide as a result of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
