MCCTC gets $16,500 grant to be used for new STEM school


CANFIELD

Mahoning County Career and Technical Center received the $16,500 Advanced Career Pathways Grant For Clean Energy Technology that will be used for the new STEM school set to open next school year.

The grant comes from the Ohio Department of Education and the Southern Regional Education Board’s High Schools That Work to support new career-tech programs relevant to the 21st-century workplace.

Each four-course Advanced Career pathway curriculum includes hands-on projects to stimulate students and help them understand the relationship between theory and application. Advanced Career combines college-ready core academic content with hands-on, project-based assignments centered on a defined career focus.

The grant money will go toward new equipment and professional development for staff and Clean Energy Technology curriculum for the new ninth and 10th grade science, technology, engineering and mathematics academy which is expected to open for the 2016-17 school year.
