Loaded gun found during traffic stop

YOUNGSTOWN

Police found a loaded .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun about 4:40 p.m. Monday after pulling over a car because the driver was going too slow.

Officer Anthony Trimble pulled over a car driven by Deraile Jett, 20, no address available, at Albert and Donation streets because the car was driving so slow it was impeding the flow of traffic.

Reports said Jett has a warrant and also a suspended license.

When he was searched after being taken into custody, Trimble found the gun in his coat pocket.

A passenger in the car, Angela Moreland, 51, also had a warrant and was taken into custody, reports said.

Former deputy is arraigned on charges

YOUNGSTOWN

A former Mahoning County deputy sheriff was arraigned Tuesday on several charges, including an alleged threat against the sheriff, in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

A grand jury last week indicted Richard Rowe, 57, of Campbell on charges of retaliation, aggravated menacing, rape and domestic violence.

The rape and retaliation charges are felonies. He entered not-guilty pleas to all charges.

Investigators say Rowe threatened Sheriff Jerry Greene and other sheriff’s department officials.

Rowe, who was fired from the department in May 2014, filed a lawsuit against the sheriff’s office and several of his former co-workers in August 2014.

An investigation into Rowe’s purported threats led investigators to conclude that, in a separate incident, Rowe had beaten and raped a family member.
