v Only one: Chloe Grace Moretz was the only actress who auditioned for the part of Cassie.

v Ohio setting: The book is set in Dayton.

v Damage: Scenes were filmed on Cotton Avenue in Macon, Ga., which was made to look post-apocalyptic – and a little too realistically. Some buildings were damaged by pyrotechnic effects, and residents called the city asking for them to pick up the trash on the streets.

v Considered: A Sony leaked email revealed that Viggo Mortensen, Russell Crowe, Jason Clarke, Matthias Schoenaerts, James Badge Dale and Ethan Hawke were considered for the role of Vosch, ranked from first to sixth, respectively. Guy Pearce, Demian Bichir, Luke Evans, Ben Foster, Joel Edgerton and Jared Leto also were considered. The part went to Liev Schreiber.

v Taxing: Author Rick Yancey, who wrote the book on which the film is based, once worked for the Internal Revenue Service.
