Mahoning commissioners award $284K bid for Lowellville bridge

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County commissioners this morning awarded the $284,682 First Street bridge improvement project in Lowellville to Marucci & Gaffney Excavating Inc. of Youngstown.

Federal funds are covering 80 percent of the project cost at the bridge, which spans the Mahoning River. The other 20 percent is coming from gasoline tax and license plate fee revenue the county engineer’s office receives.

The work includes sidewalk reconstruction on both sides of the bridge, where road salt has caused sidewalk deterioration, and the addition of lamppost lighting to the bridge, said Randy Partika, county bridge engineer.

The bridge project will complement downtown sidewalk and lighting improvements planned by the Village of Lowellville for later this year, Partika added.
