Trumbull County man faces homicide charge in shotgun death of wife

Staff report

GREENE TOWNSHIP

A 59-year-old Greene Township man is being held in the Trumbull County Jail today in connection with the shotgun killing of his wife late Sunday night.

According to Trumbull County Sheriff Thomas Altiere, Ricky Green contacted the sheriff’s department about 11:15 p.m. Sunday and calmly said he had just shot his wife, Janelle, with a shotgun while she was sitting in their home on Wakefield Creek Road Northeast.

He requested an ambulance, but he said he was fairly certain that the woman already had died.

Green is being charged with murder and is being held in the Trumbull County Jail.

Altiere said this morning that the department had not responded to any major problems at the Green household in the recent past.

The sheriff’s department, the Trumbull County Coroner’s office and agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation continue to investigate.

Janelle Green’s death is the county’s first homicide of 2016.
