2016 dog-license deadline nears in Mahoning Valley

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The deadline for dog owners in the Mahoning Valley to purchase 2016 licenses for their pets is approaching.

All dogs 3 months of age and older must be licensed each year by Jan. 31. Dogs acquired after Jan. 31 must be licensed immediately to avoid penalties.

Licensing is a requirement of Ohio law. The license, attached to your dog’s collar, will identify you as the owner should the dog be lost. If the dog is impounded by the Dog Warden’s office and is wearing its tag, you will be notified.

In Mahoning County, licenses are available at the dog warden’s office at the pound at 589 Industrial Road on the city’s West Side, at the auditor’s office in the Mahoning County Courthouse or at registered agents throughout the county that are listed on the dog warden’s website. The website also says the deadline in Mahoning County has been extended until Feb. 28.
