A central Ohio man charged with murder in the fatal stabbings of his ex-girlfriend and her two children is now behind bars.

Columbus police say 35-year-old Wendell Louis Callahan left the hospital where he’d been treated since the Tuesday slayings about 11:30 a.m. Saturday. After being interviewed by police, he was taken to the Franklin County Jail.

Callahan faces three murder counts in the deaths of Erveena Hammonds, 32, and her daughters, 10-year-old Anaesia Green and 7-year-old Breya Hammonds.

Police say Callahan forced his way into Hammonds’ apartment about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and stabbed her and the girls before being critically injured in a knife fight with her current boyfriend, Curtis Miller.

Miller had minor injuries and is also out of the hospital.
