The kindergarten students at Poland Union Elementary School had their own Polar Express day on Dec. 18.
The students and teachers came dressed in their pajamas and slippers ready to start their day.
All of the kindergarten teachers had a special day planned for their students to celebrate the Polar Express day their own way. Many of the teachers brought in hot chocolate for the students to drink as they ate their snack and watched the movie, “The Polar Express.”
Each class had crafts and activities that related to “The Polar Express.” Mrs. Mayle’s class made trains using Styrofoam pieces and put stickers on them to decorate. They also made a book about the winter train.
“We’re going to watch a movie today, we’re making hot cocoa, we’re having cookies, we’re doing activities with trains,” said Mayle. “We’re in our jammies and slippers for the day.”
Some of the Big Dogs from Poland Seminary High School were at Union for the “Big Dog - Little Dog” program and the high school students got to participant in Polar Express day with the kindergarten students.
Coming to school in pajamas was one of the students’ favorite parts because they don’t normally have the opportunity to wear pajamas outside of their homes. The teachers also had a fun time being able to wear their pajamas and slippers to work.
Having a Polar Express day like this gave the students a break from their regular school day by celebrating Christmas a little early, but they still were able to get their school work done in a fun way.
