Boardman High School put on their annual Winter Chorale concert on Dec. 9 at the Boardman Performing Arts Center in the high school.

The choir started off the evening with the song “Peace, Peace,” followed by “O, Holy Night.” During this song, director, Linda Smrek, asked all of the Boardman alumni to stand up and join the choir in singing that song.

Several choir groups performed throughout the event, including the mixed chorus, the Boardman Singers, the Spartan Singers and the Chorale. Each performed several songs during the concert.

The mixed chorus consists of singers from all of the choir groups while the Boardman Singers are all females and the Spartan Singers are all males.

During the song “Alleluia Canon,” there was a special guest violinist, Richard Smrek, who performed. Throughout the concert there were special solos and other appearances. Two students dressed up as Santa and Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer for the song “Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”

The concert consisted of eight different parts. Each part had a different group of singers perform a handful of different songs.

The Boardman High School Choral department hosts different events to help raise money for the choral department. The admission price goes back to the department to provide the funds needed to travel and buy props for the events.

The next event for the Choral department will be its fifth annual Madrigal Dinner on Jan. 8.
