Textiles of Perception

When: Starts Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

What: Work of Cheryl Eddie Deibel showcases floral fabric collages. Steps away from tradition quilts and quilting techniques to floral abstractions loosely based on Fibonacci number series to define size and proportion. To achieve desired colors, Cheryl dyes her own fabrics using reactive dyes.

Where: Fellows Riverside Gardens, McKinley Avenue, Youngstown.

FAMILY FUN – It’s for the Birds!

When: Saturday, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

What: Join us as we create some easty-to-make bird feeders to hang in your backyard for hungry winter birds, which are beautiful and fun to watch.

Cost: $3 for members, $5 for nonmembers.

Where: Ford Nature Center, 840 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown.

Bird in the Hand

When: Saturday, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

What: Join us to try to coax inquisitive black-capped chickadees to land in your hand. We’ll provide the birdseed.

STARK PARKS WILDLIFE REHAB

When: Sunday, 2-4 p.m.

What: Learn about amazing work of Stark County Park District’s Wildlife Center. The staff cares for 1,700 injured and orphaned native wild animals each year. Meet some of their nonreleasable animal ambassadors, learn how you can support center’s work.

Where: Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center Visitors Center.

Cost: Free.

Birds of Winter: Bird Watching 101

When: Jan. 25.

What: Join Jeff Harvey from Birds Unlimited to learn to identify birds in your back yard this winter and what to feed them. Will include segment on planting to attract birds and tips to deter squirrels by Marilyn McKinley, Ohio certified volunteer naturalist.

PHILLY Flower Show GARDEN TRAVEL TOUR

When: March 4-6.

What: Join Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens for three-day garden tour to explore the world’s oldest and largest indoor flower show. The theme this year is “Explore America – 100 Years of the National Park Service.” With stops at Winterthur Museum Garden & Library to see famous March Bank in bloom and Longwood Gardens to experience Orchid Extravaganza. Time allotted Saturday to explore Philadelphia on your own.

Cost: $575; FFRG, $525; includes transportation, admissions, lodging, most meals.
