Klondike Derby set

The annual Arrowhead District Boy Scout Klondike Derby will take place Jan. 23 in Perkins Park. It is an annual winter event that builds on Scout skills for boys age 11 through 17, concentrating on outdoor activities and character-building skills.

It will feature several activity stations throughout the park, working in patrols of eight Scouts, and move from station to station using their homemade Klondike sleds.

Skills include GPS navigation, fire by friction, building flag poles, ice rescue, Dutch-oven cooking and other team-building activities.

More than 200 Scouts and leaders from Trumbull County are expected to attend. It runs from 8:50 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Police academy training

Citizen’s Police Awareness Academy Training is accepting applications for its spring session, scheduled to begin March 15 and take place Tuesday nights.

The purpose of the academy is to give residents a “behind the scenes” look into the day-to-day operations of a police department. The course lasts six weeks and covers subjects such as deadly force, Fourth Amendment rights, sex-offender registration, crime-scene investigation and a tour of the county jail. Participants are permitted to do a police ride-along.

Those interested should obtain an application from the website at www.warren.org or by stopping at the Warren Police Department Records Room, 141 South St., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The course is open to all Trumbull County residents and previous class participants.
