Former Mahoning County deputy booked into jail, charged with rape

CAMPBELL

A former Mahoning County Sheriff’s deputy was booked into the Mahoning County Jail today on multiple charges.

Richard Rowe, 57, of Campbell is charged with rape, domestic violence, retaliation and aggravated menacing, according to county court records.

Rowe was charged with retaliation after he made “serious” and “substantiated” threats against Sheriff Jerry Greene and several other employees in the department, Greene said.

Rowe was terminated from his position as a sheriff’s deputy in 2014. He has since sued the department for wrongful termination.

The lawsuit, a civil case through the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas, is ongoing.

The domestic violence and rape charges stem from an alleged December incident at Rowe’s home, Greene said.

Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation agents searched Rowe’s Picadilly Street home on Dec. 31. Campbell Municipal Court records show that the sheriff’s office issued a warrant for Rowe’s arrest that day on a domestic violence charge.

Following his arrest, Rowe was sent to a psychiatric ward for mental evaluation. Officials booked him into jail the day he was released from the hospital.
