The trustees’ new chairman outlined a series of goals and projects he wants to see achieved this year.

Brian Governor said he wants to keep the budget in check by working closely with Fiscal Officer Carmen Heasley.

Some other items he wants to work on include searching for grants to fund infrastructure projects, exploring options to fully use park facilities and improving record keeping.

Governor suggested during several other meetings putting together a grant-writing team to fund various projects waiting to be started.

He also wants to obtain funding for catch-basin repairs and replacements. Many are outdated and breaking down, weakening the township’s infrastructure.

By beginning the process, Governor said, he hopes to prolong the life of some, and at least to get started on replacing others.

In the spring, trustees hope to put together a community board that would be in charge of ideas, plans and programs to better use Canfield Township Park. Township residents interested in serving can contact Governor at 330-720-4141 or brian@canfieldtownship.org.

Governor also wants to make the township’s record- keeping more technology-friendly.

“We have some very old handwritten records that need to be saved electronically. ... We are looking for a tool to make it easier to bring it into the current age,” Governor said.

Meanwhile, trustees clarified a confusing compensation standard for zoning commission and zoning appeals board members.

At the Dec. 30 meeting, there was confusion whether members were compensated per meeting, per hearing or per vote.

After further review, zoning commission members will be compensated at $30 per meeting or workshop attended.

In addition, each zoning appeals board member who votes receives $30 for each completed case heard or workshop attended.

Trustees also adjusted administrative gas-mileage reimbursement rate to 54 cents per mile – a 3 cent decrease from last year.
