Charges have been filed in Youngstown and Brookfield against a Farrell, Pa., man who Farrell police said fled from a stop-sign violation in Farrell and continued into Brookfield and Hubbard townships before crashing the car on Interstate 680.
James B. White, 22, of Roemer Boulevard refused to stop for a Farrell police officer after the stop-sign violation about 1 a.m. Wednesday, said Farrell police Chief Jon Rococi. He headed for the Ohio line.
That’s where Brookfield police picked up the chase at state Route 82 and state Route 7 in Ohio.
The Brookfield officer stopped his pursuit at the Brookfield and Hubbard township line but continued behind the vehicle until a Hubbard Township officer took up the pursuit.
White entered Interstate 80 westbound, where the Ohio State Highway Patrol continued the pursuit to state Route 711.
The vehicle crashed into a utility pole, sheering it off at the base as it entered Interstate 680 about 1:10 a.m.
The vehicle overturned, but White freed himself and fled on foot.
He was arrested after a brief chase.
White was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and later taken to the Mahoning County jail.
The highway patrol filed a felony charge of failure to comply with the orders of a police officer and two felony counts of drug possession in Youngstown Municipal Court.
He’s due for arraignment Friday.
Brookfield police, meanwhile, filed a misdemeanor charge of failure to comply against White in Eastern District Court.
Rococi said White is likely to face criminal charges in Farrell as well.
