Man is uncooperative after cops revive him

BOARDMAN

A township man faces multiple charges after he reportedly had to be extracted from a vehicle in which he was found unconscious.

Township police on Tuesday took custody of Stephen Rivers, 21, of Boardman Boulevard, after he was released from a hospital.

He is charged with resisting arrest, obstructing official business and disorderly conduct while intoxicated. He also was cited for having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.

The charges stem from an incident Monday night in which police were called to Hopkins Road in reference to an intoxicated man locked inside a vehicle.

Firefighters had to break the driver's side window to extract Rivers, according to a police report. Rivers regained consciousness after responders administered a dose of an opioid-overdose antidote.

Police say Rivers was highly uncooperative; he reportedly spit on and attempted to bite the paramedics, leading police to put a "spit mask" over his face, according to the report.

Rivers was taken to the Mahoning County jail Tuesday. He is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court here Thursday.
