GIRARD

The Ohio State Highway Patrol participated in the chase of a Pontiac G-8 through Trumbull County that ended in Youngstown early today.

Troopers from the Southington Post were asked at 1:10 a.m. to assist with a chase on Interstate 80 in Hubbard Township and found the vehicle on state Route 711 southbound. The vehicle had fled from multiple law-enforcement agencies in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Troopers tried to stop the vehicle, but its driver continued into Youngstown. As the vehicle began to enter Interstate 680 southbound, its driver lost control and slid off the right side of the roadway, striking a utility pole, sheering it off at the base.

The vehicle overturned, but the suspect freed himself and fled on foot. He was arrested after a brief chase.

The suspect, who troopers did not identify, was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatement of minor injuries. Charges are pending.
