71-year-old faces charges after fight about drug use

YOUNGSTOWN — Police arrested a 71-year-old man at about 3:15 p.m. Monday on an assault charge after a woman said he hit her during an argument over his drug use

Police were called to a home in the 1200 block of Houston Street for a fight and when they arrived they were met at the door by George Thompkins, who appeared to be intoxicated, police reports said.

Reports said a woman told police she was arguing with Thompkins over his drug use and she poured out all his marijuana on the floor and smashed one of his crack pipes when Thompkins hit her in the head with a stick. The woman had a lump on her forehead, reports said.

Reports said Thompkins was too impaired to speak to police. He was taken into custody on a charge of assault but the Mahoning County jail

would not take him because he was appeared impaired.

He was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital before he was finally admitted to the jail.
