Pianists plan fund raiser
Staff report
MINERVA
The piano duo of Carson and Jarred will perform as a fundraiser to support the instrumental music program in the Minerva Schools at 3 p.m. Jan. 24 in the Minerva High School auditorium.
Tickets may be purchased in advance from band parents and students for $12. Tickets also will be available at the door for $15 per person.
The show’s proceeds will be used to support the activities of the 200 Minerva Band students in fifth through 12th grades.
Carson Weingart and Jarred Walker are both 2010 graduates of West Branch High School. The classically trained pianists have been performing together since they were in middle school.
Both were students of Joyce Gorby in the University of Mount Union’s Preparatory Division, and both continued their musical studies in college.
For the past three years, Carson and Jarred have performed concerts throughout the area.
In December 2014, their holiday show “A Celebration with Carson and Jarred” for the Alliance Concert Association drew more than 800 people to the Alliance High School Auditorium.
Their October fundraiser concert for East Palestine Local Schools raised more than $1,000 for the East Palestine Band program.
The music for Carson and Jarred is arranged in the style of the legendary piano duo Ferrante and Teicher, who had countless hits in the 1970s and 1980s.
The program highlights music from movies and Broadway musicals, arranged and performed for two grand pianos, including music from “The Sound of Music,” George Gershwin, Liberace, George M. Cohan and other favorites.
The show also will feature Jarred on the xylophone and Carson in a tribute to Liberace, complete with elaborate costumes.
In addition to the performance, the duo will conduct an outreach workshop with Minerva instrumental-music students and will conduct a master class and discuss studying music at the college level.
