Safety classes offered this month by safety council

Three safety classes will be offered by the National Safety Council Northern Ohio Chapter, located in the Ohio One Building, Suite 343, 25 E. Boardman St., downtown.

A CPR/AED Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator Course for a two-year certificate will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 27.

The classes meet CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care guidelines and are appropriate for emergency-response teams, safety personnel, supervisors, fire, police, ambulance, athletic trainers, airline employees and lifeguards.

The classes will cover breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants, heart-disease prevention, scene control, patient assessment, CPR integration, AED application, and protocol adherence. Fee is $50.

A three-year certificate first-aid course will be offered from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 27 that also meets CPR and ECC guidelines.

The class would benefit emergency-response teams, safety personnel, supervisors and the general public. The course will cover breathing emergencies in adults, choking, identifying and caring for bleeding, sudden illness and injuries and preventing disease transmission. Fee is $50.

A DDC4 defensive-driving course, an approved course by the Ohio Department of Transportation and Ohio Department of Aging for those transporting elderly or community service transportation providers, will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 28.

The class also can be used for rate reduction by some insurance companies. The course does not meet Ohio Remediation or Point Credits.

The class will explore the stages, causes and prevention of collisions, how to reduce collision risk with defensive-driving strategies, how driving distractions such as talking and texting affect driving ability, the definition of impairment and its related dangers, the impact of physical, weather, road and traffic conditions, how to identify and minimize aggressive driving activities and the four fatal driving behaviors. Cost is $40.
