Warriors Inc. seeks adult volunteers
YOUNGSTOWN
Warriors Inc. needs adult volunteers age 21 and older for its mentoring program, “Reach One, Teach One.” A commitment of one hour per week is required.
A mentoring training session is planned for 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. next Saturday at the Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road.
Mentoring is designed to build character, confidence, self-esteem, positive relationships and to improve academics in students age 12 to 18.

Road to be closed for work on bridge
YOUNGSTOWN
U.S. Route 62 eastbound between Albert Street and Interstate 680 will be closed from 7 to 11 a.m. today for bridge-deck removal. A detour will be posted.
The work is part of a $17 million project to repair the U.S. Route 62 bridges over the Mahoning River, Poland Avenue, Cedar Street, and a railroad bridge, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Discussion planned with law officers

The Public Square, sponsored by The Buckeye Review newspaper, will host a discussion, “Law Enforcement: Our Families and Children,” with Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene and city Police Chief Robin Lees from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Gilead Baptist Church, 2821 Hillman St.
The Public Square discussions scheduled for the first quarter of the new year will feature law-enforcement officials, judges and educators on the topic of drug-trafficking arrests and how they affect the community.
Watch gets grant
LIBERTY
The Liberty Township Senior Watch Program, now in its eighth year, has received a new grant from Trumbull County for $5,000.
The program has allocated some of the money toward reflective address markers for those seniors in the program. The address markers also will be available for township residents at a minimal cost.
Man suffers minor injuries in crash
HUBBARD
A Youngstown man suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital in a crash at U.S. Route 62 and Interstate 80 at 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Stev’vahn Woodruff, 23, of Springfield, Mo., was driving a tractor-trailer north on Route 62 and attempting to turn left onto the westbound ramp to I-80 when he failed to yield the right of way to Zachary Sharpnack, 22, of Youngstown, who was traveling south on Route 62, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Sharpnack’s vehicle struck the tractor-trailer and became disabled. Neither Woodruff nor his passenger was injured. A state trooper cited Woodruff for failure to yield while making a left turn.
Fire destroys home
NEWTON FALLS
A mobile home on Queens Drive was destroyed in a fire that began with an explosion Friday morning, Vindicator broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV reported.
One of four people who lived in the home was there at the time of the fire; she escaped unharmed. The American Red Cross is helping the family find clothing and a place to live.
The Trumbull County Fire Investigation Unit and the Ohio State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the blaze.
