A court hearing concerning objections to a magistrate’s decision in a dispute over an appointment to the city schools’ Academic Distress Commission will take place at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 21.
The hearing will be before Judge Lou A. D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
It concerns objections by lawyers for the state and for school board President Brenda Kimble concerning Magistrate Daniel Dascenzo’s decision that voids Kimble’s appointment of Volney Rogers School Principal Carol Staten to a commission seat designated for a teacher and bars the commission from meeting until the court dispute is resolved.

A township woman faces a domestic-violence charge after she reportedly assaulted her boyfriend during a dispute regarding a pornographic magazine.
Tiffani Day, 43, of Erskine Avenue is charged with misdemeanor domestic violence in the incident.
Police responded to the home Wednesday afternoon, where the purported victim reported that Day struck and scratched him after he brought home a pornographic magazine. Officers reportedly observed scratch marks and blood on his face, and that clumps of his hair had been pulled out. Day was taken to the Mahoning County jail.

CAMPBELL
A traffic stop Wednesday led to a man’s arrest on a charge of trafficking in cocaine.
Police stopped William Jennings, 49, of Youngstown about 6:20 p.m. near Courtland Avenue for having no taillight and no rear license- plate illumination, according to a police report. The report states that Jennings was placed under arrest for multiple driving-under-suspension violations and that police found an open alcoholic container and 3 grams total of suspected cocaine in various small bags.
Jennings also is charged with driving under the influence, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension. He will be arraigned today in Campbell Municipal Court.

NEW MIDDLETOWN
The New Middletown Police Department is joining law-enforcement agencies across the country in recognizing Saturday as National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
The day grew as negativity directed at police became widespread nationally.
Statistics show 50,000 police officers are assaulted in the line of duty every year, with 14,000 injured. In 2015, 129 police officers were killed in the line of duty, according to the National Police Office Down Memorial page at www.ODMP.com.
Anyone wishing to express gratitude to police officers is encouraged to send a card of support to the local agency, or visit the National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day Facebook page for downloadable resources that can be used on social-media platforms.
