America’s Schoolmaster

What: Learn more about the early days of William Holmes McGuffey and his boyhood homestead in Coitsville, now known as the McGuffey Wildlife Preserve, now part of Mill Creek MetroParks. During the latter part of the 18th century and early in the 19th century, books were scarce and schools were few and inadequate, then McGuffey emerged.

Textiles of Perception
When: Starts Jan. 15, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
What: Work of Cheryl Eddie Deibel showcases floral fabric collages. Steps away from tradition quilts and quilting techniques, referencing the quilt, but collaging the fabric and exposing the layers. The floral abstractions loosely based on Fibonacci number series to define size and proportion. To achieve desired colors, Cheryl dyes her own fabrics.

STARK PARKS WILDLIFE REHAB
When: Jan. 17, 2-4 p.m.
What: Learn about amazing work of Stark County Park District’s Wildlife Center. The staff cares for 1,700 injured and orphaned native wild animals each year. Meet some of their nonreleasable animal ambassadors.
Where: Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center Visitors Center.
