Authorities suspect bones found by hiker in Ohio are human
CELINA, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say there is a high probability that skeletal remains found in northwest Ohio are from a person.
A hiker found the bones Sunday near Grand Lake in the Mercer County city of Celina. Sheriff Jeff Grey said Wednesday that authorities thought the bones were from an animal carcass until questions were raised about some of them.
Grey says the bones will be taken to a university for testing to confirm if they are human and to try to detect DNA.
He declined to release the location of the university other than that it wasn’t in Ohio.
Grey says there are no cases of reported missing people in Mercer County.
Test results could be ready by the end of the week.
