Thieves strike fire-damaged home where man died

YOUNGSTOWN

Police reports said two flat-screen televisions and other items were taken Tuesday from a West LaClede Avenue home where a man died in a fire last month.

Reports said the man’s 44-year-old sister was at the home in the 600 block of West LaClede Avenue about 10 a.m. to meet a fire inspector when they noticed a board had been pried off a basement window and the glass in the window was broken.

Inside, in addition to the two televisions, a stereo system with speakers and men’s clothing also were taken, reports said. Charles Averhart, 70, died in the Dec. 16 fire at his home. A cause of the fire has not been determined.
