Free photo workshop at MetroParks Farm

Members of Youngstown Camera Club and Warren Photographic Society will host a free photography workshop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road.

Presentations will include an exploration of basic camera settings at 9:30 a.m.; exposure, 10:30; aperture, 11:30; action photography, 1 p.m.; preparing photos for a contest or show, 3; and hands-on, 3:30. Each will include a hands-on portion.

Participants should take a camera, camera manual, lunch and drink.

Boardman-Poland JWL to begin new year

BOARDMAN

Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Glenellen, 9661 Market St., and discuss plans for the upcoming “Farewell To Downton Abbey” tea planned March 16.

January hostesses who will be sharing refreshments from their heritage are Tina Bellino, Linda Crish and Nina Lowery.

Members are asked to take men’s and women’s socks to be distributed Jan. 17 at Red Door Cafe at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown.

The league has been a tradition in Mahoning County since 1979. A social service organization, the club affords women the opportunity to get together and make friends while volunteering their time to benefit worthwhile causes.

Southside academy sets winter classes

YOUNGSTOWN

Southside Fine Arts Academy will begin winter class sessions Monday.

Sessions will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at St. Angela Merici Parish, 400 Lincoln Park Drive, and from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Fairview Arts and Outreach Center, 4220 Youngstown-Poland Road.

The academy is open to all children in kindergarten through 12th grades; there is no charge to participate.

The academy is collaborating with Dr. Jamie Marich and “Dancing Mindfulness” program and Lit Youngstown.

Classes will be offered in singing, dance, theatre, visual arts, creative writing/poetry, literature, recorders, fashion design and drum circle. Private lessons on instruments are available.

All classes are taught by qualified instructors from the community and Youngstown State University.
