Clergy reschedule meeting with prosecutor on Rice case

CLEVELAND

The county prosecutor in Cleveland is expected to meet later this month with local ministers to discuss a grand jury’s decision against indicting two white policemen in the fatal shooting of Tamir Rice.

The meeting with the group of mostly black pastors was scheduled Tuesday, then canceled.

The head of the group says he canceled the meeting to allow ministers to focus on the 12-year-old black boy’s relatives as they grieve.

Tamir was killed in December 2014 while he was playing with a pellet gun.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty’s office tells cleveland.com the private meeting is now scheduled for Jan. 22 at a community center.

The black community has been especially vocal in its criticism of how McGinty handled the case.
