Founded in 1915, the Order of the Arrow is Scouting’s National Honor Society with a focus on leadership development, membership extension, adventurous programming and broader service to Scouting and the community.
The OA has more than 170,000 members in lodges affiliated with more than 270 local BSA councils
During the program, there will be recognition and congratulations for youth and adult Order of the Arrow members for their dedication to service in their council, their units and their communities. After dinner, there will be installations of 2016 officers, recognitions and awards, a recap of the National Order of the Arrow’s 100th anniversary and the 100th anniversary National Order of the Arrow Conference, and the 20th anniversary of Wapashuwi Lodge will be presented.
The Wapashuwi Lodge Arrowman of the Year award is presented to one youth and one adult each year for rendering outstanding service to the lodge while truly exemplifying the spirit of the Order of the Arrow.
Introduced at the 1981 National Order of the Arrow Conference, the Founder’s Award was created to honor and recognize those Arrowmen who have given outstanding service to their lodge.
The award is reserved for an Arrowman who demonstrates to fellow Arrowmen that he or she memorializes in his or her everyday life the spirit of achievement as described by founder E. Urner Goodman and co-founder Carroll A. Edson.
This recognition is the highest National OA award presented to an Arrowman on a lodge level. At the close of the banquet, the presentation of the 2016 members selected to the Vigil Honor will be made.
