Thiel College plans Shakespeare Festival

Staff report

GREENVILLE, PA.

The Third High School Shakespeare Festival at Thiel College will take place Jan. 21 at the William A. Robinson Theater.

The festival is a daylong celebration of William Shakespeare’s work and features soliloquies, small scenes and large-ensemble pieces from eight participating high schools.

High-school students will present their work from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., break for lunch and then have a performance block followed by workshops in the afternoon.

The day’s events are free and open to the public.

Audience members may come and go throughout the day, but stage access is limited to the breaks between individual high school performances.

“We are thrilled to host schools from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland and West Virginia at our Third Annual High School Shakespeare Festival. We look forward to once again providing an opportunity for young thespians and Shakespeare aficionados to come together to celebrate the bard’s artistic legacy,” said Pete Rydberg, assistant professor of performing arts and director of the Thiel Players.

A campus tour, awards ceremony and reception will cap the day.

Thiel College faculty and staff serve as respondents for the high-school productions and will distribute awards at the festival’s conclusion.
