Cleveland officer pleads guilty to touching student, 14

CLEVELAND (AP) — A Cleveland police officer has received probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanors related to charges that he inappropriately touched a 14-year-old girl while working as a security guard at a private Cleveland school.

Elvin Sanchez Jr., 36, was sentenced today after agreeing to a deal with Cuyahoga County prosecutors. Sanchez pleaded guilty to sexual imposition and attempted importuning after being indicted on felony gross sexual imposition and importuning charges.

Sanchez must register as a sex offender for 15 years, and has resigned as a police officer. A prosecutor’s spokesman says the girl’s family agreed to the sentence.

The charges stem from Sanchez’s relationship with the girl in 2014. Prosecutors say they exchanged explicit text messages, and he inappropriately touched her.

An attorney says Sanchez takes responsibility for his actions.
