Truck crash

LEAVITTSBURG

A tractor trailer overturned Saturday on the state Route 5 westbound ramp in Warren Township, injuring the driver and spilling a load of steel furnace coke that caused authorities to close the ramp for about 21/2 hours.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Warren post reported it occurred at 10:10 p.m. because the driver was going too fast, causing the truck to overturn.

Keith Elliott, 57, of Leavittsburg, was trapped in the cab. He was cut out of the cab by the Warren Township Fire Department and taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries including a broken arm, the patrol said.

Assisting Warren Township firefighters were the Warren Township police, Champion Township firefighters, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
