Probing car fire in Weathersfield
WEATHERSFIELD
Authorities are investigating how a car caught on fire Thursday afternoon on Interstate 80 in Weathersfield Township, according to a report by 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.
The car was westbound on I-80, catching fire right by the Salt Springs Road exit.
There were no reports of injuries, and lanes were temporarily shut down so fire crews could stretch hoses across the road.
Deputy crashes while responding to crash

A Mahoning County sheriff’s deputy ended up crashing a police vehicle while on her way to respond to another crash on the same icy road.
Deputy Marcella Walter had her lights and sirens on and was en route to a crash involving injuries at Western Reserve Road near Tippecanoe Road when her car hit two mailboxes and a house about 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Western Reserve near Detwiler Road.
Walter lost control of the vehicle due to the icy road conditions, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Walter, who was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries, received a failure-to-control citation.
Deputies, BCI finish searching home

Officials with the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation finished searching a Piccadilly Street home today, the Vindicator’s broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV reports.
The home’s owner, Richard Rowe, 57, is a former deputy sheriff. The sheriff’s office has charged Rowe with domestic violence, according to online records.
