Official: 30 girls involved in Pittsburgh school fight

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A school official says about 30 girls were involved in a bloody brawl at a Pittsburgh school after a fight over a boy got out of hand.

Pittsburgh Public Schools spokeswoman Ebony Pugh says about 30 University Prep students have been arrested after the early morning fight today. She says one student was taken to a hospital for an asthma attack.

The school, which serves grades six through 12, was taken off lock down after the students were removed from the grounds.

Pugh said classes resumed as normal today.

TV news footage shows a large police presence and ambulances outside the school.

Pugh says the fight began around 9:45 a.m., and those involved will likely face charges. She wasn’t sure of the ages of those involved.

She says injuries other than the asthma attack were minor scratches and bruises.
