3 hurt in shooting at Ohio school; suspect in custody

MADISON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (AP) — Three students were hurt in a shooting at a southwestern Ohio school district today, but none had life-threatening injuries, officials said. A suspect was in custody.

Madison Local Schools said on its website that the campus near Middletown, roughly 30 miles north of Cincinnati, was on lock down and all other students were safe. The district didn't reveal what happened at the school, but police in nearby Middletown said on their Facebook page that it was a shooting.

The Butler County sheriff asked people to stay away from the school until the scene was cleared, and nearby roads were blocked.

The district said students will be dismissed once authorities give the all-clear. Parents were allowed to the high school to pick up their students.

The district has about 250 junior high and 500 high school students, according to enrollment estimates in Ohio Department of Education records.

Two medical helicopters were called to the scene.
