Purple Heart award

Local resident Gregory Anderson recently received a law-enforcement Purple Heart award from the American Police Hall of Fame and the National Association of Chiefs of Police.

Anderson, who lives in Sebring with his wife, is a retired assistant chief of police for the Alliance City Police Department. He served the department from February 1991 until his early retirement in December 2009.

The Purple Heart honor was given in recognition for injuries he has sustained during his career that led to his early retirement from law enforcement. The award is a first for an Alliance officer.

Anderson was also awarded a Medal for Bravery from the American Police Hall of Fame in 2010 resulting from his apprehension in early 2009 of an armed robber and kidnapping suspect.

Anderson now works for Kent State University.
