Lacatena homers, but Lehigh tops Penguins
GREENSBORO, N.C.
Senior Jordan Macey went 2-for-3 and junior Maria Lacatena hit a three-run home run, but the Youngstown State softball team dropped a 12-4 decision to Lehigh on Friday afternoon at the UNC-Greensboro Tournament.
With the loss the Penguins fall to 2-2 on the season.
After falling behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning, the Penguins scored four in the top of the second to take a 4-2 lead. Sophomore Cali Mikovich walked to lead off the inning and went to third on a double by Alexandria Gibson. Lacatena followed with three-run homer to right-center field — her first home run of the season — to give the Penguins a 3-2 edge.
Macey’s two-out single to center continue the rally and junior Sarah Dowd walked and junior Brittney Moffett reached on an error to load the bases. Senior Miranda Castiglione drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Macey and put the Penguins up, 4-2.
Lehigh answered with four runs in the bottom of the second, four in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the bottom of the sixth.
The Penguins face Iona at 9:30 a.m. and Lehigh at noon today.

Penguins’ Orosz sets 200 freestyle record
ROCHESTER, MICH.
The Youngstown State swimming and diving team continued competition at the Horizon League Championships on Friday. Sophomore Viktoria Orosz led the Penguins with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.
Orosz finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a school-record time of 1:48.40. Oakland’s Nikki Flynn won the event with a time of 1:47.54. Orosz’s previous school-best mark was 1:48.78 established at last year’s Horizon League meet.
The Penguins’ Hannah Reynolds was eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.25. She set a school record in the prelims clocking a time of 1:04.02, which bested the mark held by Samantha Roberts.
Roberts’ mark was set in 2011.
To close the night, 400 medley relay had a time of 3:48.63 to finish sixth. The time was just 0.10 seconds behind the school record.
After three days, the Penguins are in seventh place with 223 points. Oakland has a strong lead over the field with 550.5 points heading into the final day.
The final day of action today features the 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 3-Meter Diving and the 400-yard freestyle. relay.
