Two candidates are running for recorder in the March 15 Democratic primary:

Age: 62.
Address: 424 Madera Ave., Youngstown.
Employment: Mahoning County recorder.
Education: Ursuline High School, Class of 1971.
Family: Husband, Joseph; sons, Marc and Carey.
Priority: To continue to scan bound deed books and plats, begin e-filing of certain documents, review filings and continue to look for irregularities that may lead to criminal prosecutions, and continue to be a working recorder with a full-time presence in the office.

Age: 59.
Address: 204 Misty Woods Court, Struthers.
Employment: Struthers tax commissioner.
Boards and commissions: Chairman of the Struthers Public Records Commission; chairman of the program and planning committee of the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board.
Education: Graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, the Ohio School of Broadcast Technique in Cleveland; and Youngstown State University with an associate degree in social science with a concentration in business management and economics.
Family: Wife, Debra; children, James Bertrando and Thomas Bergagna.
Priority: To evaluate the recorder’s office budget, labor contract and service delivery to the public; modernize office technology; identify ways to improve the operation of the office and make it more efficient; create short- and long-term plans for the office; expand communication with other county officeholders; improve relations between the recorder’s office and the people it serves; educate the public about its functions; and identify new funding sources for the office.
